Obituary of Professor Richard M. Gonzalez

Richard M. Gonzalez, 81, of Freehold Township died Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at home. He was born in New York City and had resided in Freehold Township since 1971. He earned a Master of Business Administration Degree from Baruch School of Business and Public Administration, City University of New York. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Cold War Recognition Certificate. Professor Gonzalez was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine R. C. Church, Freehold Township; a former Den Leader and Assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scouts of America Troop No. 155, a former treasurer of the Freehold Township Parent Teacher Organization, and a member of American Legion Post No. 54, Freehold. He was Comptroller of Fomento of Puerto Rico, Northeast Regional Director of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and retired from Borough of Manhattan Community College where he served as Dean of Administration, Dean of Students, Dean of Faculty, Professor of Business Management, Economics, Law and Marketing. He was conferred with the title of Professor Emeritus. Surviving are his wife, Lydia B. Gonzalez; a daughter, Elena LaTerra; two sons, David and Michael Gonzalez; and nine grandchildren. Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be held at St. Robert Bellarmine R. C. Church, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. followed by entombment at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery, Marlboro Township. Memorial donations to St. Joseph’s Indian School, 1301 N. Main Street, Chamberlain, SD 57325 would be appreciated.
