Obituary of Vera I. Bathgate Marquardt
Vera I. Bathgate Marquardt, 97, of Freehold died Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Care One at Jackson. Mrs. Marquardt was born in Marlboro Township and had resided in Freehold for most of her life.
She was baptized in the First Baptist Church, Freehold.
Mrs. Marquardt and her husband Herman “Dutch” Marquardt operated Marquardt’s Service Station on South Street, Freehold until his retirement in 1972. They were known by the slogan “We love to fix tires”. She was also employed at Elsa’s Beauty Shop and Monmouth Gardens, both of Freehold. Mrs. Marquardt enjoyed knitting, gardening, and baking and as a younger woman enjoyed horseback riding with her sister.
Her husband Herman E. Marquardt, died in 1999. A son, Larry Marquardt, died in 1975, and a daughter, Joan Wish, died in 2009. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Lawrence “Bill” Bathgate, Arthur “Sonny” Bathgate, and Edward “Buster” Bathgate; and a sister, Edna Bastedo.
Surviving are five grandchildren, John Wish, Freehold, Jim Wish and his wife, Pamela, Farmingdale, Jeffrey Wish and his longtime companion, Diane Lockhart, Jackson Township, Ronnie Marquardt, Rincon, Georgia, and Donna De Paz and her husband, Wayne, Rincon, Georgia; and four great grandchildren, Jeffrey and Taylor Wish, and Adam and Nicole De Paz.
Relatives and friends may call at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold,on Sunday, July 10, 2011 from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held at 5:00 P.M.
