Obituary of Vincent A. Campbell
Vincent A. Campbell, 88, of Freehold Township died Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Vincent was born May 29, 1927 in Manhattan, New York. He was the son of Aston and Doris Campbell. In 1912 Vincent’s grandparents immigrated to the United States from Jamaica, West Indies and created a home for what are now five generations of the Campbell family stretching from New York to California.
Vincent joined the U.S. Army as a Military Policeman in 1945 and was stationed at Ft. Benning, Georgia. Six years thereafter he graduated from Howard University with a degree in engineering. After meeting Gladys Fair in New York, they married in California on September 22, 1960. After retirement, Vincent dedicated his time to creating a community where everyone could reach the dream of home ownership. Vincent was named “1990’s Man of the Decade” by the Freehold Area Chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
Vincent is survived by his wife Gladys Campbell; daughters Karen Campbell, Anne Clark and Linda Skillman; son David Campbell; and seven grandchildren.
The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street,
Freehold on Saturday from 9:00 to 11:45 a.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11:45 a.m. followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold. Memorial donations to Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth County, 45 South Street, Freehold, NJ 07728 would be appreciated.
