Obituary of Boyle Naughton
Boyle ‘Bill” Naughton, 85, of Marlboro Township passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at home with his wife of 59 years at his side. He was born in Irvington on Hudson, N.Y.
He grew up in East Orange where he was known affectionately by his friends as “Irish”. He attended Holy Name Grammar School, run by the Sisters of Divine Charity and received the American Legion School Award for excellence in academics. He was also active in the youth choir and enjoyed singing throughout his life.
He served with honor during World War II as part of the 104th Infantry “Timber Wolf” Division, in the European Theater of Operations. He was wounded in action in Cologne, Germany. He was the recipient of two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.
He relocated to Marlboro in 1946 where he met the love of his life Agnes Compoly. The two shortly married and raised a family of five children. He was employed at Fort Monmouth for 43 years and rose to the rank of Captain in Physical Security. He was a communicant of St. Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars (Post #4374) and Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of the Marlboro Friendship Club.
He was the son of Peter Francis Naughton and Mary Ann O’Boyle who emigrated on their honeymoon from County Mayo, Ireland. He was also pre-deceased by his brothers Stephen and Peter and his sister Sarah.
He is survived by his wife Agnes, his children and their spouses: Patricia and Andrew, William, John and Laura, Michael, and Richard and Carolyn. In addition he was blessed with six grandchildren: John, Liam, Peter, Sean, Cassandra and Samantha. He is also survived by his brother Anthony Naughton and his sisters Mary Buckley and Catherine Condon and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 3:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Gabriel’s R. C. Church, 100 North Main Street, Marlboro on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at the parish cemetery. Memorial donations in his name to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
