Obituary of Otto Hintze
Otto Hintze, Jr., 81, of Cambridge, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 16 at home.
Mr. Hintze was born in Newark on October 17, 1933, the oldest child of the late Otto, Sr. and Anna Hock Hintze. He was raised mostly in Irvington and graduated from Irvington High School in 1951.
He then embarked on a 36-year career with Culligan Water Conditioning, starting as a floor sweeper and rising through the ranks to become Vice President and General Manager of the Consumer Division, retiring in 1987. He also served in the U.S. Army from 1951-53.
Mr. Hintze married Janet Metzler Hintze in 1958. They lived in Tinton Falls for 10 years before moving to Freehold, NJ in 1970 and then to Cambridge in 2000, where they enjoyed living close to Chesapeake Bay.
He had many interests, including community volunteer work, landscaping, gardening, politics and watching professional sports.
In addition to his wife of 56 years, he is survived by a son, Glenn Hintze, and his wife, Susan, of Somers, New York; a brother, Robert Hintze, of Apollo Beach, FL; a sister, Carol Hintze Pilone, of Flanders, NJ; two granddaughters, Gretchen Hintze and Claire Hintze, both of Somers; and many in-laws, nieces, a nephew and many friends.
Calling hours will be held at Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold, NJ, on Thursday,Nov. 20 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral service at 11am on Friday, Nov. 21 at the funeral home. The interment will follow at Old Tennent Cemetery, Manalapan, NJ.
