Obituary of Brother John Amedy Francis Martin
Brother John Amedy Francis Martin, F.S.C. 85, of Lincroft died Sunday, October 12, 2008 at De La Salle Hall, Lincroft. He was born in New York City and received the Holy Habitat of the Christian Brothers on September 7, 1940.
He was a graduate of Catholic University, Washington, D.C. and received a Master of Arts Degree from Manhattan College, New York City. He was awarded an honorary LL.D. from Manhattan College in 1981.
He was a awarded a fellowship at Cornell University for Science Education from 1956 to 1958 and an Esso Foundation fellowship at New York University Science Education from 1957 to 1958. He was a member of the Executive Council of Science in the New York Archdiocese.
His assignments included St. Peter’s High School, Staten Island, N.Y., Tolentine School, Manhattan Prep School, De La Salle Institute, and La Salle Academy where he served as director, all of New York City; Christian Brothers Academy, Lincroft where he served as director, La Salle Provincialate where he served as provincial, Sacred Heart School, Yonkers, N.Y. where he served as principal, and Manhattan College where he served in the development office and as director of the community. He was treasurer and assistant to the provincial of the La Salle Provincialate, Lincroft.
He is survived by a sister, Mary Martin.
The viewing will be held at De La Salle Hall, Lincroft on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated at De La Salle Hall on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery, Marlboro Township. Memorial donations to De La Salle Nursing Development, 810 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft, NJ 07738 would be appreciated. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold is in charge of arrangements.
